2022 ASCI Entrance Ceremony in Cambodia

On 21 October 2022, ASCI Cambodia Satellite Campus held an Entrance Ceremony for four newly enrolled Ph.D. students.
 
• Mr. THAV Sopheak and Mr. NOUV Sophorn have been admitted to the Graduate School of Bio-agricultural Sciences, Nagoya University.
• Mr. KUOCH Somean and Mr. KHOUN Theara have been admitted to the Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University.
 
   The ceremony started with the opening remarks by Dr. YAMAUCHI Akira, Director of Asian Satellite Campuses Institute, Nagoya University. He expressed ASCI’s strong commitment to providing the best quality of education for the students until they achieve their goals, the Ph.D. degree.
 
Dr. SUGIYAMA Naoshi, President of Nagoya University, shared his congratulatory message through a video message to our new students and briefly introduced the background of the Transnational Doctoral Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries. He also expressed Nagoya University’s willingness to play a key role in bridging between the two countries as both countries will celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2023.
 
   H.E. Mr. MIKAMI Masahiro, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Japan to Cambodia shared his congratulatory remarks through the video message. H.E. Ambassador mentioned that Nagoya University is one of the prestigious universities in Japan. He hopes that the new students will use the knowledge and expertise acquired through courses for the development, prosperity, and happiness of the Cambodian people. He also added that 2023 marks the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Cambodia and he strongly hopes that new students will become a new bridge between Japan and Cambodia.
 
   Ms. KAMEI Haruko, Chief Representative of the JICA Cambodia Office, stressed the important role of JICA which has supported human resource development in Cambodia through various training and scholarship programs. The alumni from NU through JICA programs provided outstanding contributions to the development of Cambodia. In addition, she added that she is always impressed by NU alumni’s presence, contributions and good performance when she visited universities, government agencies, etc. in the country.
 
   From the Cambodia side, the ceremony was joined by rectors of collaborating universities, namely Dr. NGO Bunthan, Rector of the Royal University of Agriculture, and Dr. CHET Chealy, Rector of the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Furthermore, Dr. ONG Socheath, a GSBS graduate, and Dr. MON Sreyleak, a GSID graduate also kindly joined this event and provided advice and tip on how to manage time and complete their study.
 
   Finally, the ceremony was concluded by Dr. SHIMADA Yuzuru, Vice Dean, Graduate School of International Development. He shared his experiences and advice to new students that, “completing the Ph.D. program is not an easy task and research is a very lonely work, so you have to keep motivating yourself and be active”.
 
 Overall the ceremony was attended by 33 people in person and more than 12 people online.
